Uganda has a half of the remaining mountain gorillas with the rest in Rwanda and DR Congo meaning it has many numbers of habituated gorilla families for tourism and higher chances of seeing the mountain gorillas.
There are also other gorilla families which are still undergoing gorilla habituation process which means training gorillas to get used to human presence and the process takes 2 to 3 years. Therefore you can participate in gorilla habituation which allows you to be close with the mountain gorillas for 4 hours as you also participate in habituating them.
Your participation in gorilla habituation is a big contribution in the habituation process.
The mountain gorilla and chimpanzee safari brings you close to the rare endangered mountain gorillas still living in one of Africa’s ancient forest of Bwindi Impenetrable national park and Kibale the home of chimpanzees.
Kibale national park is the best destination to do chimpanzee trekking in the whole of East Africa because it also has other many primate species which are so amazing to see.

Besides the primates listed above, there are also golden monkeys in Mgahinga national park located in the south western part of Uganda and you can add on golden monkey trekking or habituation in case you are going to trek mountain gorillas in Mgahinga national park.
Golden monkeys are so amazing to see when they are interacting with one another and doing their daily activities like feeding, playing, swinging on tree, feeding their young ones etc.
Since we are heading to the montane rainforest of Bwindi and Kibale forest, expect to see a wide variety of bird species in both forests and these are good destinations for birders.
Both forests have over 500 bird species and in fact African bird club rated Bwindi impenetrable national park as Africa’s number one destination for birders therefore expect to see some of the 24 Albertine Rift endemics.
Mountain gorilla and chimpanzee trekking safari also gives you a chance to explore the country side of Uganda since you will travel to Kampala to Kibale as you pass through towns like Mityana, Mubende, Kyenjojo and other small trading centers.
You will also explore the scenic beauty of Uganda which is characterized by plateaus, rolling hills covered with green vegetation and valleys especially in Bwindi.
The journey from Kampala/Entebbe to Kibale to Bwindi is worth it because you will see large beautiful plantations of tea and bananas which beautifies Fort Portal town and which is one of the historical towns in Uganda with a lot of history.
