DETAILED SAFARIS ITINERARY
Day 1:To Kidepo Valley National Park
Early morning after breakfast, we will leave Entebbe for Kidepo Valley National Park which is in the northern part of Uganda. We will stop at Ziwa Rhinos Sanctuary for tracking the Rhinos. You will have a quick lunch and then proceed kitgum overnight at Cactus Hotel Kitgum
Day 2: To Kidepo Valley National Park
After breakfast proceed to Kidepo Valley National Park, check in at your hotel and later do an afternoon game drive in the beautiful Kidepo valley national park. This National park ranks among Africa’s finest wildernesses. From Apoka, in the heart of the national park, a savanna landscape extends in all directions, far beyond the gazetted area of 1442km2, towards horizons outlined by distant mountain ranges. DAY 03 : Morning game drive and cultural experience.
Kidepo Valley inhabits one of the most exciting faunas of any Ugandan parks, with over 80 species of mammals several of which are endermic to Kidepo National Park like the cheetah, the striped hyena the caracal and over 465 bird species including the ostriches. In the afternoon visit the Karamojong village to learn more about their culture, music and dance Karamoja has a cattle culture and the Karamojong are notorious as cattle raiders. Unlike most other Ugandans, many Karamojong shun western-style clothes and instead wear “traditional” dress of a blanket -like shawl, often in red and black. The women wear elaborate beadwork. DAY 04 : To Murchison Falls National Park
Early in the morning after breakfast, and then leave for Murchison falls national park the northern sector with lunch along the way. The park is bisected by the Victoria Nile, which plunges 45m over the remnant rift valley wall, creating the dramatic Murchison Falls, the centerpiece of the park and the final event in an 80km stretch of rapids. The mighty cascade drains the last of the river’s energy, transforming it into a broad, placid stream that flows quietly across the rift valley floor into Lake Albert. There are a lot of animals to see on your way to the hotel through the park such as elephants, giraffes and buffaloes; while hippos, Nile crocodiles and aquatic birds are permanent residents. We reach Fort Murchison just outside the park boundaries later in the afternoon. Here we will stay and with a cool drink and a fabulous view over the river Nile the evening will come with all the noise of an African night. DAY 05 :In Murchison Falls National Park
Early morning head for a game drive on the northern bank of the River Nile. Your guide will help you spot elephant, lion, cape buffalo, Roth child’s giraffe, hartebeest, waterbuck, oribi, bushbuck, bohor reed buck, hyena and if you are lucky, the leopard. After lunch, go for a boat cruise to the bottom of the falls. Here you will see the River Nile said to be the 2nd longest river in the world crush through a narrow gorge and forming the magnificent Murchison fall. While on the cruise you will see hippos, crocodiles elephant, waterbuck and Uganda Kob among others. This is also the zone of many birds, species like goliath heron, Egyptian goose, pelican bee-eater, kingfisher, hornbill, cormorant and the rare shoebill stork. Overnight at your lodge. DAY 06 : To Kibale Forest National Park
After your very early morning breakfast drive south via Hoima to Fort Portal through verdant countryside and pass traditional homesteads and farms. Fort Portal rests in the shadow of the fabled Mountains of the Moon, and the town was named after a British Special Commissioner for Uganda Sir. Gerald Portal, whose statue graces the main road of the town. Kibale Forest National Park is one of Africa’s greatest tropical rain forests, and is home to a number of forest wildlife, most notably 13 species of primates including chimpanzees, and 375 species of birds. We traverse through Ugandan traditional Villages where you see people in gardens nurturing their traditional crops such as millet, sorghum, beans and maize. Keep eyes open for some bird species along the roads such as Long-Crested Eagles, Double-Toothed Barbet, Black-headed Gonolek, Fan-tailed Widowbird, sunbirds and weavers as we travel. We shall have a stopover at Fort portal town for late lunch, and after continue to our accommodation, check-in and have an evening off relaxing. Day 7: Chimp walk and Swamp Walk.
After breakfast we visit Kibale Forest National Park, which is reputed to have the greatest variety and highest concentration of primates in East Africa. The most famous of its 13 species is the Chimpanzee, our closest relative. Kibale 1450 Chimpanzee represent Uganda’s largest population of this endangered primate. Kibale is also a home to the rare I’Hoest’s monkey. Other primates include the black and white Colobus, Blue monkey, Grey cheeked mangabey, Red tailed monkey, Olive baboon to mention but a few. So you will enjoy a guided nature walk in the tropical rainforest in search of the wild chimpanzees, red-tailed monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys and many others. We have the opportunity to do a community in Bigodi after your chimp tracking . Day 8: To Queen Elizabeth National Park
Early morning departure for Queen Elizabeth. Via Fort Portal we reach at midday Mweya in Queen Elizabeth NP with a stunningly beautiful view over Kazinga Channel. In the late afternoon we will make a game drive. Day 9: In Queen Elizabeth national park.
The day begins early when we start with a morning game drive and head to the mating ground of the Uganda Kobs. We search for lions, elephants, buffaloes and other wild animals in their natural habitat before returning for lunch. In the afternoon we take a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, a natural channel between Lake Edward and Lake George. Thanks to the abundant birdlife that is sighted and the elephants, buffaloes and hundreds of hippos that are cooling off at the shores, this cruise will definitely be superb. Expect to see a lot aquatic birds, hippos, crocodiles. Day 10: Transfer to Bwindi
In the morning we leave Bwindi for Kisoro, the bad road takes us through a beautiful landscape called the “Switzerland of Africa”. Driving time: ± 4 hours Comfortable accommodation: – Trakker’s Ruhija (self-contained rooms)
Day 11: Gorilla tracking
We will head to the briefing point at the park headquarters and from here you will be briefed about the does and don’ts while in the jungle forest with the gentle Giants. You will be provided with walking sticks and you are also advised to have your lunch parked with enough drinking water. The Gorillas share with us humans 95% of their genes and starring into their pondering eyes is as overwhelming as it is awesome. Day 12: To Lake Mburo NPK
Early in the morning we will leave for Lake Mburo National Park. You will have lunch in Mbarara before you continue to Lake Mburo, a smaller but unique park, and the only one in the Western part of Uganda with impalas and zebras. If staying in budget accommodation this afternoon will be for the village/cultural walk. Day 13: In Lake Mburo National Park
Early morning, we will go for a game walk. In the afternoon a boat trip on Lake Mburo followed by another game drive in the afternoon / early evening. This little park hosts a variety of animals, that is to say 68 mammal species, including a large number of impalas (the antelope from which “Kampala” is named after), zebras Uganda kobs, duikers bushbucks, Ankole cattle topis, buffaloes, leopards, spotted hyenas, waterbucks, warthogs, oribi. There are 315 bird species including; shoebill stork, red faced barbet, crested crane, papyrus yellow warbler. The vegetation is mainly open Savannah of Acacia trees, Olea and Boscia.Lake Mburo is a natural haven for fauna and flora. The bank teems with animals and birds. Crocodiles and hippopotami are permanent residents, and buffalos come to drink during the dry season. Others include; impalas (the antelope from which “Kampala” is named after), zebras Uganda kobs, duikers bushbucks, Ankole cattle topis, buffaloes, leopards, spotted hyenas, waterbucks, warthogs, oribi. The wide variety of resident birds includes Malachite Kingfishers, Pied Kingfishers, African Fish Eagles, Rufous Long-tailed Starlings, Blue-headed Weavers, Green-necked Doves, Hammerkops, Pelicans, Herons, Cormorants and even rare Shoebills. Day 14: To Kampala / Entebbe
