15 Days Gorilla Trekking Wildlife Safari and Rhinos in Uganda

Day 1: Airport EBB – Arrival at Entebbe

You are warmly received and transferred to the hotel for overnight rest

Overnight stay: Lake Victoria View Guest House (BB) or The Boma (BB)

Day 2: Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary   (210 km 4 hrs)

After a sumptuous breakfast, drive through the countryside northwards to the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. This is the only natural habitat to observe the Rhinos in Uganda. Relax for lunch then go for the afternoon bush walk through the thickets to see the Rhinos. Enjoy a relaxed evening and overnight on the sanctuary grounds.

Day 3: Rhino Sanctuary to Murchison Falls Park  130 km, 3hrs

This morning, leisurely drive north through the Masindi colonial town, the Budongo forest up to the top of the Murchison Falls. Enjoy the views and sounds of the thunderous falls as the River Nile squeezes through a narrow rocky gap. Check in at the lodge and relax to the magnificent sight of the sun setting over the wilderness and animals on the river banks. Murchison Falls is the largest park in Uganda with a wide variety of animals and birds.

Early morning game drive in the savannah park to see the predators returning to their dens and grazers begin the day. The Queen track is good for spotting lions while in the Pakuba area leopards and hyenas with kills can be encountered. Along the Albert Nile and Victoria tracks, elephants, Giraffes, antelopes and Hyenas are seen. Return to relax and for lunch. In the afternoon, embark on a three hours boat cruise on the river Nile upstream to the bottom of the Murchison falls. Crocodiles, hippos and colorful birds are visible along the shores.

Day 5: Murchison Falls NP to Fort Portal

After early breakfast, drive south through villages and upcountry towns as well as picturesque tea plantations to Fort Portal at the bottom of the Rwenzori mountains. You will have lunch in the colonial administrative town of Hoima, the main city of the Bunyoro Kingdom.

Overnight stay: Fort Motel (FB) / Mountains of the Moon hotel (FB)

Day 6: To Semliki National Park  80 km, 2 hrs

Have a hearty breakfast and proceed through the Rwenzori Mountains to Semliki. Enjoy the views of the plains stretching up to Congo. You will a walk in the jungle and visit to the steamy Hot springs. The forest, animals and birds are an extension of the vast Congo basin. Later transfer to Kibale Forest. Relax by the evening campfire with sounds from the nocturnal animals of the forest.

Day 7: Kibale Forest National Park

On this day, we go on the trails for Chimpanzee tracking with the highlight being an encounter with a group playing or feeding in the trees or on the ground. Kibale National Park is a tropical forest home to 12 other primates and 355 bird species. You will enjoy the walk as the Guides explain the life of the forest.

In the afternoon, you can make a nature walk in the Bigodi Swamp and visit the local community or explore the picturesque crater lakes around the surrounding hills and valleys. It is as well possible to do the chimpanzee habituation experience and spend the whole day with the primates in the forest (optional).

Day 8: Kibale Forest to Queen Elizabeth 160 km, 4 hrs

Transfer to the Queen Elizabeth National Park with splendid views of the Mountains of the Moon all the way. Make a stop by the Equator and stand in two hemispheres at the same time. Enjoy afternoon game drive as the sun sets.

The day starts with a morning game drive in the park and along the tracks of the Kasenyi plains west of the national park. This area is famous for predators such as lions, hyenas, leopards with the antelopes and warthogs as prey. Return to the lodge for lunch. We then slope down to the jetty for an enchanting boat cruise along the beautiful Kazinga channel that connects two lakes.

The boat sails close to numerous animals that come to the channel for a drink. Hippos, buffaloes, elephants, giant forest hogs, crocodiles and many bird species can be seen in the water or on the banks. The cruise ends down by Lake Edward with stunning views of the border mountains of the Congo in a distance.

Day 10: Queen Elizabeth to Ishasha 100 km 3 hrs

Have a morning game drive and transfer south to the Ishasha sector. Check in at the Lodge for lunch and relaxation. Enjoy a relaxed sunset game drive in search of the tree climbing lions. The drive goes up to the river camp. You will see hippos in the river and primates in the surrounding trees.

Overnight stay: Ishasha Jungle Lodge (FB) or Ishasha Wilderness Camp (FB)

Day 11: Ishasha to Bwindi national Park (60 km 2 hrs / 150 km 5 hrs

After a sumptuous early breakfast, we drive to Bwindi Impenetrable. On our way we pass through hilly villages, beautiful landscapes and the mountains with breathtaking views. Bwindi Impenetrable is a unique montane forest with many wildlife species and birds. Bwindi is one of the 2 places in the world where you find the endangered Mountain Gorillas!!

Early morning set off in the forest, the highlight being an encounter with a family of the Gorillas!! You will have an hour with them for an experience that will last a lifetime. The Guides informatively explain the plants and animals of the forest as well as the life of the gorillas. After tracking, we return to the lodge to relax. It is possible to do a community walk in the afternoon (optional)

Day 13: Bwindi Impenetrable Forest to Lake Bunyonyi

This morning, have breakfast and relax. You drive leisurely south through the hilly villages to Bunyonyi, the deepest and most picturesque lake in Uganda. The hillsides have hanging terraced farms and homesteads. In the afternoon, relax at the lodge, take a swim in the lake (Bilharzia free), go canoeing or take a boat trip on the lake to surrounding communities and the punishment Island. Return to the lodge to relax in the cool breeze and sights of the lake.

Overnight stay: Bunyonyi Overland Camp (FB) or the Bird Nest (FB)

Day 14: Lake Bunyonyi to Lake Mburo 200 km 4 hrs

After breakfast and relaxation, drive leisurely through the mountains and cattle countryside to Lake Mburo. There are five lakes in the park with surrounding rolling hills. It is mostly woodland harboring beautiful bird species, leopards, hyenas, zebras and the rare topi and Eland antelopes. Hippos and crocodiles are common on the lake. In the afternoon, go for a game drive along the tracks or enjoy a boat trip on the lake. Return to the Lodge to relax with views of the park below.

Day 15: Lake Mburo to Entebbe 260 km 5 hrs

After a sumptuous breakfast, have a game safari walk in the park to see animals in close proximity. It is a thrilling moment if you have never encountered wildlife on foot. We then transfer to Entebbe for your departure flight with a lunch break at the Equator crossing.
